Three Boys & an Old Lady

This blogging mama loves finding new things and spreading the word about fab finds

Ever hear a song and find yourself wondering who that artist sounds like?  Malea McGuinness is that kind of artist.  Her sound is reminiscent of so many great singers and songwriters from days gone by.  When I heard she was on tour with some of my favorite lyricists Kenny Loggins and Shawn Colvin, I knew I had to check out this singer/songwriter.  What a gem!
Malea is a classically trained vocalist and attended the Manhattan School of Music.  She even performed on Broadway in the ‘King and I’ but she longed for something more.  She made the jump from Broadway to Contemporary a few years ago, recorded and released her debut album.  Malea is back with her sophomore effort, “Close As Air”.
The 10 track CD includes, the title track, “Close As Air”, and “Moving On”.  However, the track “Spinning” best describes her transitional journey as a musician.   Click here to listen to a sample of “Spinning”.
“Close As Air” is a bit of soul, folk, new country, and Southern rock.  Her voice reminds me of several outstanding vocalists including Alanis Morissette, Patti Smith, with a hit of early Linda Rodstadt.  She’s a well trained vocalist who can belt it out loud and strong or smooth it out nice and easy.  Malea McGuinness is definitely an artist to watch.
Here’s a sample of the song “Spinning” for your listening pleasure.
